01 Sep The Daily Courier – Room After Room With a View At Dream Home Up for Auction
A long driveway lined with greenery and endless manicured lawns leads to a grand mansion on a 14-hectare East Kelowna property going up for auction this month.
The Harvest Ridge Luxury Orchard Estate, located at 2295 KLO Rd., was previously listed for sale for $6.8 million, but it did not sell. “A house over $5 million can sometimes take years to sell regularly,” said Alex Lambert, CEO of The Garage Sale Luxury Auction House. Instead, the property will be auctioned Sept. 22.
The owners of the house, Karen Everall and Blair Hallett, bought the property in 2003 and built their dream home a year later. With their two children grown up, they have decided to downsize and build a new home in Kelowna. “When you look out at that beautiful view, it’s spectacular,” said Everall. “I’m hoping that the new owner will enjoy it as much as we did.” The on-site, live auction will have no minimum bid and no reserve price. “I think it’s a unique property, and I think it’ll do good in an auction,” said Hallett. “It’s getting lots of buzz.”
Walking through the front door of the 6,000-square-foot, art deco-style mansion, light pours in through floor-to-ceiling windows, shining on pristine granite floors. The main foyer opens into the open-concept living room, kitchen and dining room with views of the surrounding orchards and Okanagan Lake in the distance. The dining room leads out to the patio, which overlooks orchards, the lake and the pool below. The large patio serves as another entertainment space, featuring a fireplace, seating and a barbecue. Stairs lead directly down to the pool and the pool house, containing a sauna and a bathroom.
The bottom level of the main house facing the pool is the nanny suite, containing a full kitchen, living room, bathroom and bedroom. Through the nanny suite is access to a billiards room, a temperature-controlled wine cellar, another bathroom and another grand living room area. One of the corners of the room even had a telescope for late-night stargazing. Finishing off the downstairs of the house is a four-car garage.
Outside, past the pool area, a wide path surrounded by greenery and flowers leads to a tennis court, an herb garden and fruit trees, which are cared for by groundskeepers. The property features around nine hectares of fruit trees, including cherries, apples, pears, peaches and grapes.
Immediately to the right of the front door of the house, opposite the living room, is a large office, a small bathroom and another room that is advertised as either a home gym or a space to expand the master bathroom and walk-in closet next door. Next to the office is the master bedroom, which features floor-to-ceiling windows along the main wall on either side of the bed. Across from the bed is a long, narrow walk-in closet, including built-in storage and drawers. The other end of the room opens into the master bathroom, containing two separate sinks, a large shower and a free-standing bathtub. Above the bathtub is a large window, featuring stained glass on the lower portion of the window. Walking up the stairs leads to two more spacious bedrooms, joined by a shared bathroom. Between the two bedrooms is also a small laundry room.
